Our Society
The Nandewar Historical Society exists to preserve the history of Barraba and the surrounding district. This encompasses the history of our early pioneering families, mining, agricultural and military heritage. Barraba is in the north-west of New South Wales, Australia.
The Society was formed in 1965 and has premises at 71 Queen Street. The Nandewar Historical Society is named for the The Nandewars, a mountain range in our local area of which Mt Kaputar is the tallest peak.
The Society is made up of dedicated volunteers with a passion of local history. We meet on the third Tuesday of the month in the Dean's Room at 71 Queen St, Barraba and always warmly welcome new members.
Over the years our members have produced some publications which are rich with information about pioneering families and local photographs. The publications can be purchased on our Store page or in person at Barraba's Visitor Information Centre located in Queen Street.
We are currently working on a number of interesting projects and would welcome your input and help on any one of them.
