UPGRADE OF DEAN ROOM

Picture
After the successful re-opening of the Barraba Historical Museum last year, the Nandewar Historical Society has been continuing to upgrade the facilities.  The major improvement has been the upgrading of the Dean Room, which has been re-painted both inside and out and the floor has been repaired and given a coat of paint which enhances the look but also retains the original look.  However in order to accomplish this, all of the items which were stored in the Dean Room had to be shifted out and stored off site.  We are now in the process of restoring display cases and organising new displays for the room.  This will double our display area and give us the opportunity to show off some more interesting historical items.  It also gives us a larger area where people who wish to check out our Family History Collection, can sit in comfort and are able to find what they need from the folders stored on shelves for easy access.  We also have reverse cycle air conditioning in the Dean Room, which makes it very comfortable during these cold days.

New publication about Queen Street

Picture
Maurie Conway is currently researching and writing about the businesses and shop fronts of Queen Street. We hope to publish in the future. If you know of the history of the buildings or have photographs or other information to contribute please get in touch with us.

Historical plaques

We are having some historical plaques made for Treloar's Buildings, the Claypan and Fullers Gallery, Clifton's Garage (where Universals Kitchens is now) and H. White's Garage (which was just south of where Stock & Crop and Bill McKid's office is now).

The Nandewar Historical Society together with Barraba Military Group have also completed the fourth Military plaque which will be placed on a pedestal frame and will match the other three existing plaques. The new one will be placed before the garden area on the post office corner.
This plaque will be in recognition of the women of Barraba and their contributions to the war.
